We talk about having a principle of ‘insight’ at Glassbooth. What does that mean? Thanks for asking. It means that we try our best to keep our finger on the pulse of democracy and how people are using the Internet. We recognize projects that are great, and look for ways to fill voids that are not being met. While we continue to innovate and create new tools to empower people with information - I’ll take a moment to realize a trend in the way people are organizing political information online.
The following tools all in some way or another attempt to match personal opinion with opinion of presidential candidates. Some do it well, some not so well…but that isn’t important. What we recognize at Glassbooth is that folks are trying to get creative about informing voters, and we love that. Give them a try, let us know what you think, lessons learned, how sweet we are, how not sweet we are, etc.

My Election Choices

I took the quiz and I got Dennis Kucinich. I have taken a similar quiz before - though not as thorough - and also got Dennis. So now I am in a quandary. I like the idea of a woman predisent, but my ideals are more in keeping with another - read white mail - candidate. What to do?
Saralee,
I understand the quandry you are in–I too am a female who wants to support womankind but is going to vote for a male in the primary. I don’t know how you are going to reason your vote, but for me, I think I really just need to stick to my convictions. If a white male or black male or anyone is going to be the one to accomplish what I believe in, then they are the candidate for me. And, if it makes you feel any better, chances are that even if you don’t vote for Hillary in the primary you will be able to vote for her in the presidential election!
Good luck.
Saralee,
I too understand your issue. I am a male who wants to support mankind but unfortunately received Clinton on my quiz. I like the idea of a woman president, but my ideals are more in keeping with another - read white female - candidate. What to do? I suppose I could stop being blinded by my baseless support of my own demographic, but it’s just so hard.
Obviously, that was a total lie, but it sounds just as ridiculous and misguided when you say it. I happen to disagree on most things with Senator Clinton, but if I did I would not let either mine or her gender get in the way. Think about it.

[...] isn’t your older brother’s vote-match quiz. But you don’t have to take my word for it; take the other popular quizzes and make your own comparisons. They’re all fun, but Glassbooth is vote-match [...]
Wow and wow… very surprised, as many are (!) to see how this works. I like your approach because I sense that the weighting each voter sets in the first page selects the questions we answer… which does seem to be the way many voters determine their eventual choices in the booth…many, but not all, voters have one or two issues that are MUSTS…and “Glassbooth” factors this in. But I do think that the “horse race” & celebrity effects always carry in to the booth also… as one sees from the comments to this post..! Congratulations on a great use of terabytes!
Hey guys — I tend toward a
more or less libertarian stand,
though somewhat conservative as
well. So you throw Mike Huckabee
at me. C’mon, where is the
question that deals with religion
as a candidate’s qualification?
A “born-again-style candidate??”?
No way, guys!
Dear glassbooth,
Thanks for putting this together. I had been interested in your competitors, but they always left me wanting something a little more… a little more like glassbooth, as a matter of fact.
There is one suggestion I have, though it may make things slightly more complicated.
Instead of asking us to support/oppose broad concepts, why not offer a list of all of the proposed solutions to a particular problem, and let us pick our favorite.
This is similar to how the USA Today quiz works, but you should also allow us to mark any policies that we would at least find acceptable.
To shorten the lists, you could set up a dichotomous key of sorts, or at least a series of increasingly specific options. The last choice could always be “no preference” which would prompt the site to move onto the next issue segment.
I set up an example on the questions of Iraq and the Environment after being thoroughly frustrated with USA Today. Let me know if you would be interested in seeing it.
Perhaps this would be too complicated, but it seems to me that most of the people looking at this site are already informed. They might enjoy the specifics. Maybe you could offer the more involved version to anyone who finishes the simpler version.
Well, that is enough from me. Thanks again, and keep up the good work!
