New Zealand First will replace the Waitangi Tribunal with a Waitangi Commission which will require all claims to be filed by 2014, with the intention of resolving all claims by 2020.
New Zealand First voted in favour of the bill, and at its third reading MP Dail Jones said, "New Zealand First made it very clear at the very outset, on 25 June 2003, that it would support any move to ensure that the Crown had legal title to the foreshore and seabed. That is what this legislation does. We said again that Māori traditional rights of use must be protected, but that those rights could not be extended to property ownership on the basis of race. This legislation protects those rights..."
New Zealand First supports the proposition of one single franchise, but believes that 'the decision to abolish Maori seats is a decision for the people to make."
New Zealand First will “drastically reduce the inflow of migrants. We will end the blind commitment to bringing in up to 52,000 migrants annually”, review family reunification policies that have “rapidly become an open door for large numbers of unqualified migrants”, match migrants to “economic and social goals”, and introduce a probationary period for immigrants requiring them to keep “an unblemished record for five years” before becoming citizens.
