Sarah Palin on Abortion and Birth Control
"I'm pro-life. I'll do all I can to see every baby is created with a future and potential. The legislature should do all it can to protect human life."
Q&A with Newsmax.com's Mike Coppock Aug 29, 2008
Q: Roe v. Wade, do you think it should be reversed. A: I think it should, and I think states should decide that issue.
"Q: If Roe v. Wade were overturned and states could once again prohibit abortion, in your view, to what extent should abortion be prohibited in Alaska? A: Under this hypothetical scenario, it would not be up to the governor to unilaterally ban anything. It would be up to the people of Alaska to discuss and decide how we would like our society to reflect our values."

Q: Some people have credited the morning after pill for decreasing the number of abortions. How do you feel about the morning after pill? A: Well I'm all for contraception and any preventative measures that are legal, safe and should be taken. But I believe that life starts at the moment of conception...Personally, and this isn't a McCain/Palin policy, but personally, I would not choose to participate in that type of contraception.
Palin said last month that no woman should have to choose between her career, education and her child. She is pro-contraception and said she's a member of a pro-woman but anti-abortion group called Feminists for Life. "I believe in the strength and the power of women, and the potential of every human life," she said.

Q: If a 15-year-old is raped by her father, you believe it should be illegal for her to get an abortion. Why? A: I am pro-life and I am unapologetic about my position there on pro-life, and I understand good people on both sides of the abortion debate...I'm saying I would counsel this person to choose life despite the horrific circumstances they were in. If you are asking though, kind of foundationally here, should anybody end up in jail for having an abortion, absolutely not, that's nothing I would ever support.
The candidates were pressed on their stances on abortion and were even asked what they would do if their own daughters were raped and became pregnant. Palin said she would support abortion only if the mother's life was in danger. When it came to her daughter, she said, "I would choose life."

Q: John McCain would allow for abortion in the case of rape and incest. You believe only in the case where the life of the mother is endangered. A: That is my personal opinion. Q: Would you change in the case of rape and incest? A: My opinion is abortion is allowed if the life of the mother is at risk.
"Q: What are your views on abortion? A: I am pro-life. With the exception of a doctor's determination that the mother's life would end if the pregnancy continued."

Palin has opposed funding sex-education programs in Alaska.
"Q: Will you support funding for abstinence-until-marriage education instead of for explicit sex-education programs, school-based clinics, and the distribution of contraceptives in schools? SP: Yes, the explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support."
