The Green Party on Employment
The Green Party believes that workers, employers and unions should all be involved in decision-making about the workplace. Workplace democracy and collective organization are essential to address the inherent potential for inequality of power between employers and employees.
The Green Party policy is to increase the minimum wage to at least $15 an hour, and ensure it does not fall below 66% of the average wage.
The Green Party opposes a three month probation period for employees. “The proposal is a mean-spirited, anti-worker policy that has no place in a modern and innovative economy”.
The Greens oppose this strongly. “If this became the case, employers would be able to use this bargaining chip to their advantage in any pay negotiations with their employees”.
